Mary Edith (Harmon) Darst (1922-1990), the daughter of Harry and Margaret Lemmon Harmon and wife of Daniel Clinton Darst (1920-1993), passed away at Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio.

Mary Edith Harmon Darst, 67, of 345 McConnell Ave., died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1990, at Bethesda Hospital.

Mrs. Darst spent most of her life in Zanesville and was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church.

She was born July 28, 1922, in Zanesville, a daughter of Harry and Margaret Lemmon Harmon Sr.

Surviving are her husband, Daniel C. Darst Sr. of the home; two sons, Daniel C. Darst Jr. and Paul R. Darst, both of Shelby, N.C.; five daughters, Debbie Williams of Shelby, N.C., Sondra Mathews and Mrs. Fred (Rosalind) Kennedy, both of Zanesville, Joyce Birkhimer of Dresden and Vickie Darst of Zanesville; one sister, Marguerite Moats of Newark; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers.

ZANESVILLE -- Daniel Clinton Darst Sr., 73, of 1856 Adams Lane, died at 12:23 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 1993, at Adams Lane Care Center.

Mr. Darst was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Zanesville. He was a retired electrical engineer for Fasco Inc. in Shelby, N.C., and a former employee of United Technologies. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church.

Surviving are five daughters, Rosalind Kennedy and Sondra Mathews, both of Zanesville, Debbie Williams and Vickie Darst, both of Shelby, N.C. and Joyce Birkhimer of Dresden; two sons, Daniel C. Darst Jr. and Paul R. Darst, both of Shelby, N.C.; two sisters, Viola Gilg and Bonnie Leach, both of Zanesville; and 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary Edith Harmon Darst on Jan. 9, 1990, and his parents, Paul R. and Mae Warner Darst.

Ralph Clayton Darst (1900-1960); the son of Daniel Clinton Darst (1869-1919); the son of John Garlinger Darst (1833-1913); the son of Martin Darst (1796-1880), passed away in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio.

Ralph C. Darst, 60, of Route 5, died early Saturday morning at Good Samaritan Hospital where he had been a patient for 10 days.

He had been in decling health for the past year.

A retired employee of the Burnham Corp., he was born in Indiana on Jan. 20, 1900, the son of Daniel and Mary Vance Darst. He had lived in Muskingum County for 54 years.

Surviving are his widow, Hazel, of the home, and a brother, Paul, of 384 Stewart street. Two brothers preceded him in death.

The body was taken to the Delong & Baker Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Frank W. Reed, of Cambridge, spent Saturday in town with relatives.

Warren Brown, living south of town, received word Saturday, of the death of his nephew, Harry Darst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Darst, of Zanesville. The child fell in the Licking river, Saturday morning at 11:10 and was drowned. The Darsts back yard borders on the river bank. Mr. and Mrs. Brown left at once for Zanesville.

Mrs. Elizabeth Darst Celebrates the

90th Anniversary of Her Birth

A social event of marked and most delightful interest took place yesterday at the residence of Capt. John Stasel, about one mile south-east of the city. The occasion was the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the birth of Mrs. Elizabeth Darst, mother of Mrs. Stasel.

About 75 guests were present, who engaged in social pleasure, all taking a hand in something and striving to outdo each other in making matters pleasant. An elegant and sumptuous dinner was served, to which all present did full justice. Numerous handsome presents which had been brought by the children and grandchildren were presented in a neat speech by Rev. Siferd, on behalf of the donors, to aged lady.

Mrs. Darst is the mother of eight children, grandmother of thirty-six and great-grandmother of fifty-one children, a large majority of whom were present and enjoyed the festivities of the day.

Taking it altogether, the result was a most enjoyable time - one not soon to be forgotten by Mrs. Darst or those who were present. Although 90 years old, Mrs. Darst is still hale and hearty, and bids fair to reach the one hundreth mile stone of her life.
